Parish Council Candidates

The Parish Council Nominations Committee is pleased to present the slate of candidates for three Parish Council seats that will soon be vacant. The nominees are Francis Chester, Chuck Hawkins, David Irvin, Bill Kerr, Beth Negron and Greg Ridenour. Each was asked to submit a short sketch of their life & thoughts about St. Francis—the results are in today’s bulletin insert. Please become familiar with them. The election will be held this weekend. You will be able to vote for three candidates

MSGR. CASSIN RECOMMENDS

Here is some good solid reading for the summer (or beyond) — Atheist Delusions by David Bentley Hart. The current trend in publishing is to market to the “new atheist”, putting forth to young people ideas based on profound confusion. Sacred Page along with Msgr. Cassin have hand-picked books with good solid arguments in response to today’s new atheist misrepresentations. Delusions is the first of a series of recommendations. Look for the section marked Monsignor’s Recommendations in Sacred Page today.

Literature Rack

LITERATURE RACK: Several years ago, before there was a bookstore, the parish began to order magazines and devotionals from a  Reading Service in an effort to get good Catholic reading material into the hands of parishioners. The intention was to break even but the parish lost money almost from the outset, skyrocketing in the past year, to losses of as much as $100 a month. Items were being taken but few folks were paying. The Finance Council recommended that the service be discontinued and the Parish Council concurred. Most items on the rack contain subscription cards so you can continue to receive your favorites at home. Some periodicals will be carried in the library. Check with Angie McFarling if you have requests.

SUBS NEEDED

Do you have a gift for teaching but cannot commit to lots of Sundays? How about being a substitute for teachers who occasionally are ill or have another emergency? Please consider prayerfully what a blessing it is to pass on our faith to the children of St. Francis. Becky Arnott would like to talk to you about it. Call her at 337-8671
